The time has come. My semi-permeable membrane, which only allows certain ions to get in, got infected by a virus that allowed previously impenetrable substances to enter my cell.

How did this happen? There was a vesicle that was prematurely released via exocytosis. This caused vulnerability to the cell allowing “foreign” substances to enter.

The result? There was an imbalance in the internal milieu, including excessive Na+ and K+ to remain outside. The hypertonicity of the extracellular fluid caused the water from the cell to go out in attempt to regain balance in it’s environment.
